Authorities say a Utah militia group leader with ties to Cliven Bundy accused of trying to blow up a federally owned cabin in Arizona also cased mosques and military facilities.
FBI agent Steve Daniels testified in Salt Lake City on Wednesday that William Keebler took video of an unidentified mosque before settling on the remote cabin to target.
Defense attorney Lynn Donaldson says the government is overstating how much planning was done. He said undercover agents built an inert device and placed it on the cabin before handing Keebler a detonator.
Prosecutors say Keebler wanted to use explosives and was willing to shoot anyone who came after them had he detonated the device.
They want Keebler to stay in jail ahead of trial, though a judge didn't immediately rule.
Daniels said the FBI started investigating Keebler after he took part in a 2014 armed standoff with federal officials at Cliven Bundy's Nevada ranch.
