LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Sands faces a $2 million fine to settle allegations that it didn't properly account for millions of dollars paid to a Chinese consultant and received from a high roller with a suspicious past.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board announced Wednesday that the casino company faces two counts of violating the state's gambling regulations. Under a tentative settlement, the company neither admits nor denies the allegations but would pay the fine.
The complaint points to a federal Securities and Exchange Commission order that found the Sands didn't properly document several major money transfers to Chinese entities from 2007 to 2009.
It also says the casino didn't properly vet a high roller reportedly linked to international drug trafficking.
Sands officials said they look forward to resolving the matter.
