A southern Utah county commissioner says he's considering an appeal of a 10-day prison sentence for his role in an ATV protest ride through a closed canyon, but says he thought the judge was thoughtful and considerate of the facts and situation.
San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman told The Associated Press on Monday he was relieved to be able go home with his family after the Friday hearing.
Lyman was allowed to self-report to prison at a later date. He was also given three years' probation and a $1,000 fine in addition to $96,000 he was already ordered to pay for damage caused by the ride.
Lyman has a couple of weeks to decide about an appeal. He said he'll depend on his attorney, Peter Stirba, to analyze the legal factors.
