Museum Displays Memorabilia From Stead, Reno Air Bases

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A new military museum at the Reno-Stead airport showcases the history of the Stead Air Force Base and the Reno Army Air Base.

About 25 veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam and their families attended the Wednesday opening of "Reno-Stead: A Proud History."

The Reno Army Air Base was renamed in 1951 to honor 1st Lt. Croston Stead. The Reno native died in December 1949 while flying his P-51 Mustang during a training mission at the base.
