CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A panel of Nevada water experts is trying to synthesize data from months of drought-related meetings into concrete action steps for the governor.
The Nevada Drought Forum met Monday to discuss findings from last week's three-day drought summit in Carson City. They determined their final report won't be done by a Nov. 1 deadline, and plan to ask Gov. Brian Sandoval for a deadline extension.
Two other meetings were scheduled for Oct. 26 and Nov. 20.
Gov. Brian Sandoval created the Nevada Drought Forum in April, telling panelists to send him recommendations for dealing with persistent drought. Sandoval said some of their suggestions could become agenda items he'll outline in his January State of the State address.
Ideas include changing water laws, better tracking water use and desalinating sea water.
