25% Containment At Nevada Fire Burning Sage Grouse Habitat

EUREKA, Nev. (AP) — Wild land firefighters in central Nevada say a lightning-sparked blaze that has burned more than 11 square miles of sage brush and scrubby pines about 15 miles northeast of Eureka is 25 percent contained and should be fully contained by the weekend.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefeld said Wednesdays there's no immediate threat to homes or private property but they are working to fully suppress the fire because it is burning in sage grouse habitat.

He says overnight rains allowed crews to make significant gains on the fire first reported about 1 p.m. Monday. He says the short-term forecast calls for more wet weather that should allow for full containment by Saturday night.
