Arcade-style slot machines could be in Nevada casinos as early as next year says one game-maker now that a single regulatory vote remains.
On Wednesday the Nevada Gaming Control board recommended legal language allowing for slot machines that could require skill to win or a combination of talent and luck. The changes would need to be approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission which is set to discuss them Sept. 17.
The industry says particularly younger gamblers want skill-based games. To deliver, slot machine makers pushed lawmakers this year to pass a law encouraging innovation by directing the Gaming Control Board to make the regulations more nimble.
Gamblit Gaming CEO Eric Meyerhofer says if the new language is approved it could put the new machines in casinos by early or mid-2016.
