Agency Awards $1.1 Million For Rural Nevada Tourism Push

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Nevada Commission on Tourism says it will hand out $1.1 million for 176 different statewide efforts encouraging visitors to stay overnight in rural Nevada.

The agency said Thursday that the matching grants will publicize a new off-highway vehicle festival in Moapa Valley, tours for travel writers along the U.S. 50 corridor and tours of the Reno-Tahoe area for Brazilian tour operators among other programs.

Other grant awards will be used for branded giveaways at travel shows as well as advertising, brochures and billboards.

The funding comes from a small portion of the room tax revenue collected from tourists who stay overnight in Nevada.
