Trees To Be Dedicated On Date Marking Las Vegas Police Slayings

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Community and elected officials plan to mark the sad anniversary of the slaying of two Las Vegas police officers and a Wal-Mart shopper by dedicating trees at a police substation where the officers worked.

Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo were killed at a pizza shop last June 8 by a husband-and-wife team of anti-government extremists.

A legally armed civilian, Joseph Wilcox, was killed minutes later, when he tried to draw his gun to confront the armed couple entering the Wal-Mart.

The assailants, Jerad and Amanda Miller, died during a shootout with police inside the Wal-Mart store.

Police say officers who worked with Soldo and Beck will help dedicate the living memorial during the ceremony set for 6 p.m. Monday at the police department's northeast area substation on Cecile Avenue.
