LAS VEGAS (AP) — Federal and state agencies are putting seasonal fire restrictions into effect to try to prevent wildfires in vast recreation and wilderness areas in southern Nevada.
Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Kirsten Cannon says restrictions begin Friday.
Officials from several agencies plan to provide an overview of the rules at the Kyle Canyon Administrative Center at Mount Charleston, along with wildfires statistics from 2014 and a forecast for this year.
The National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife and Forest services, the federal Bureau of Reclamation and Nevada Division of Forestry are all involved.
Restrictions generally limit smoking to enclosed vehicles or certain cleared spots, and prohibit open flame, campfires, charcoal stoves, welding, fireworks or explosives outside designated areas.
Some ammunition is banned, and off-road vehicles must have exhaust spark arrestors.
