The longest runway at McCarran International Airport is reopening for the summer travel season.
The Las Vegas airport said it finished the first phase of the $67 million renovation project Wednesday.
The asphalt on the nearly 15,000-foot-long runway is being removed in two six-month phases. It is being replaced with concrete, which is more durable.
The runway typically handles about a third of all flights and was closed in October.
It will close again in the fall to complete the construction project, which is expected to be in late April or early May 2016.
McCarran sees nearly 20 million passengers each year.
