Nurses who say U.S. hospitals aren't ready for an Ebola outbreak protested outside a Las Vegas Strip resort where they are holding a union convention. The Wednesday rally drew hundreds of participants, wearing red T-shirts outside Planet Hollywood, following a skit inside a ballroom dramatizing what the spread of Ebola could mean for hospital workers. A union spokesman said U.S. hospitals lack training, equipment and isolated areas where suspected Ebola-infected patients can be quarantined.
The Centers for Disease Control announced Tuesday that the number of Ebola cases in Africa could grow from an estimated 21,000 now to 1.4 million in just two African countries by January.
About 1,000 nurses and health care workers are in Las Vegas for the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee convention.
