Reno police say they have had more reports of phone calls in recent weeks where people ask for money to help a loved one. The caller says that person is in jail and needs money to get out. In a recent incident, a woman received a call claiming her granddaughter was being held in a jail in Tennessee. The caller told the woman she needed to send $6,000 for bail before her granddaughter would be released. The woman sent the money before discovering her granddaughter was not in jail. The Reno Police Department is again reminding folks that these types of phone calls are scams. If in doubt, ask for the person's name, law enforcement agency and phone number, Contact the law enforcement agency or your family member to verify whether he or she is in custody. |
