Judge Rules In Favor Of Las Vegas Psychiatric Hospital

A federal judge has tossed out a lawsuit against the Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital from a plaintiff who claims he was put on a one-way bus trip from the facility out-of-state.

Friday U.S. District Judge James Mahan issued the order dismissing claims filed on behalf of James Flavy Coy Brown. The suit alleged officials at the hospital violated Brown's civil rights when it sent him to California on a bus. The suit also asked the judge to issue an order to stop Nevada from sending psychiatric patients out-of-state.

A Sacramento Bee investigation last year showed the hospital was practicing patient dumping and sending hundreds of similar cases on one-way bus trips to other states. The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada plans to appeal.
