Former LVCVA Employee Fined For Airline Gift Card Scandal

The Nevada Commission on Ethics fined a former employee of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for misuse of government assets.

The commission ruled that Brig Lawson, the former director of business partnerships at the LVCVA, willfully violated the Nevada Ethics in Government Law by using Southwest Airline gift cards belonging to the LVCVA.

Lawson agreed to pay a fine of $13,881.

The fine included a $5,000 sanction for the violation, plus twice the amount of the value of the gift cards.

The commission said in a statement it viewed the misuse of government assets for a personal purpose as a significant violation of the public trust and imposed the maximum monetary penalties.
