Hearing Tuesday On Nevada Church's Challenge Of Virus Rules

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A rural Nevada church is trying again to persuade a federal judge that the state's 50-person cap on religious gatherings is unconstitutional.

A hearing is scheduled Tuesday to consider Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley's bid for a temporary injunction subjecting it to the same, less stringent limits placed on casinos and other businesses allowed to reopen at 50% of building capacity.

The church's latest request cites limited enforcement of social distancing guidelines at casinos or recent protests over policing and race. The state says making an effort to protect public safety is not a restriction of anyone's First Amendment rights.
