LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was apparently uninjured after being shot during a confrontation with a man who was killed during the exchange that started after a traffic stop.
Patrol spokeswoman Chelsea Stuenkel says at least one bullet struck the trooper's badge, but she wasn't sure whether he was wearing a protective vest. The shootout happened Friday just after midnight on Boulder Highway near U.S. 95 in Las Vegas.
Stuenkel says the trooper had pulled over a car for a traffic violation. A woman was driving the car and the suspect and another male passenger were inside. One of the passengers fled.
Stuenkel says the trooper chased the suspect, who began shooting, prompting the trooper to return fire.
Neither the suspect nor the trooper was identified.
