The Las Vegas’s broadcast season concluded on Classical 89.7 this past weekend with one of the greatest of all piano concertos (Beethoven’s #5) and a bit of Leonard Bernstein (whose 100th birthday is coming up in a few days).
What a high level of quality this orchestra has reached! From the October concert played just days after the shootings of October First, where the Philharmonic shared the healing power of music with many first responders, through the all-hands-on-deck performance of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” (which at one point had more than three hundred performers on stage!) to the season’s final work, the Fifth Symphony of Sergei Prokofiev, which was composed in a spirit of great hope at one of the darkest times of World War 2, the range of emotions and musical colors in this past season was exceptional, and we’re so delighted to have been able to share those performances this summer.
The Las Vegas Philharmonic’s 20th anniversary season is just ahead, beginning with an opening night celebration of Leonard Bernstein and concluding in May with one of the mightiest of all musical works, Beethoven’s Symphony #9. We’re already making plans to bring this upcoming season to you next summer, and we can’t wait for it to begin. If past is prologue, this upcoming LVPO season will be one for the ages.
