"Betting on the Fight": a poem by Heather Lang

Betting on the Fight

The elephant hasn’t got a chance.

The tiger has claws

and brass knuckles,

too. He’ll show him.

He’ll give him

the ol’ one two.

It’s industrial theatre. It’s

negative space. It’s

animal control.

It’s knowing that

Las Vegas doesn’t suck.

It’s a string of confetti

that quivers like my spine

in love. And it’s not about

the building. It’s not

even about the bricks. It’s all

about the explosion.
