See Hear Do: November 12-18

There’s no shortage of what to see, hear, and do at any time in Nevada. Here are some highlighted cultural events for the week starting November 12.

November 13:

The stage name of Spanish guitarist Diego Garcia, Twanguero is most known for his multi-genre approach to guitar. The base of his performance is Spanish classical finger-picking style. But he also throws in dashes of Latin, surf, rockabilly and jazz, thus giving his approach an international sound. His name is related to his aesthetic — he calls it Latin twang.

NPR Music said his music finds “ a spot somewhere between the flamenco music on which he was raised and the low, percussive rumble of '50s-era Duane Eddy.”

November 16:

At Vegas City Opera, the 16-year-old organization — along with Las Vegas Sinfonietta — saw an opportunity in Handel’s secular work Semele: What if they updated a baroque opera to reflect modern celebrity/influencer culture, red carpets and all? We’re gonna find out November 16, when the Opera’s cast portrays Semele, Jupiter, and other notables of ancient mythology as their reality TV and Hollywood equivalents, all backed by the Sinfonietta’s 30-ish member ensemble.

Through November 24:

Vegas Theatre Company is presenting a series of one-person shows, mostly by local theater and entertainment professionals, through November. The shows include:

--A Beautiful Chaos by Kelly Clinton (November 14)

--TSMRKT by Ernest Hemmings (November 15-16)

--Prostate Cancer: The Musical! by Eric Travis Wilson (November 16)

--Mother by Anne Zander (November 21-23)

--The McEnfro Show by Jonas Woolverton (November 21-22)

--Fifty Percent Success Rate & Surprise! (November 22 & 24)

Through January 29:

The show’s central focus is that of the upstander -- the witness who is moved to act in the face of injustice. It uses photographs and other artifacts to tell the stories of those who stood up for people who were threatened and much worse.

Curated by the Nevada Center for Humanity’s Nevada Holocaust Museum, and located in the Government Center's Rotunda Gallery.
