If you can believe it, the first month of the year is almost over.
Maybe it’s because so much has happened, beginning Jan. 1 with the Tesla CyberTruck explosion and suicide in front of the Trump International Hotel.
Speaking of the new administration, it feels like a repeat of eight years ago when Donald Trump first took office: but more intense; lots of moves on the first day with executive orders. And just this week, a temporary freeze on government grants. Other orders targeted immigrants, transgender people, and other marginalized groups.
The order seeking to halt federal funding left governments, nonprofits and developers wondering: how could this hurt or help what we do? Then there’s the hubbub over DEI — how important is that to you?
Will mass deportations hurt Nevada businesses, like construction, which relies heavily on immigrants, undocumented or not? Wll ICE go after people who married for citizenship?
On a different note and way beyond the realm of politics … "The Last Showgirl," a Las Vegas-based film starring Pamela Anderson, wasn’t nominated for an Academy Award, but it received many accolades. Have you seen it? What did you think?
This is our one-hour open mic show. Email son@knpr.org with your thoughts.
