Almost all of us have been asked at work, online or through the mail to give to a local nonprofit. Nevada Public Radio devotes weeks in the spring and fall asking for support, because that’s a major part of our budget.
And in Nevada, there are thousands more nonprofits. Guidestar counts 14,717 nonprofits, employing 57,600 people with estimated assets of more than $30 billion.
They’re a major part of Nevada’s economy and employment picture. At the same time — nonprofits don’t get a lot of media attention — unless someone is caught stealing, embezzling or some other malfeasance.
That will be different this week at Nevada Public Radio.
To put a spotlight on Nevada nonprofits, this entire week, we’re broadcasting live from Three Square food bank in North Las Vegas.
And as September is National Hunger Action Month, we’ll start today focusing on food insecurity.

Community-wide Virtual Food Drive
Throughout the month of September, those in a position to donate can contribute to Three Square’s Community-wide Virtual Food Drive by visiting www.threesquare.org/ham. All proceeds benefit the nonprofit’s efforts to combat food insecurity. For every dollar donated, Three Square can provide up to three meals for a neighbor in need. In 2022, the Community-wide Virtual Food Drive, contributed hundreds of thousands of meals to Southern Nevadans battling hunger.

The Forum Shops Dine with a Purpose, Sept. 1-30
During the month of September, when patrons dine at participating restaurants at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Three Square Food Bank.
This year’s participating restaurants include Joe's Seafood Prime Steak & Stone Crab, Sushi Roku, The Palm Las Vegas, True Food Kitchen, Carmine's Family Style Italian Restaurant, RPM Italian, Water Grill, Trevi Italian Restaurant and SOL Mexican Cocina. Nevada Public Radio Fall Membership Campaign, Sept. 11-22
Nevada Public Radio’s 2023 Fall Membership Campaign will take place in September, giving members the option to donate meals to Three Square in lieu of receiving traditional “thank you” gifts when they make their pledge of membership support.
MGM Resorts International will fund the value of all meals designated to Three Square during the fall drive. In 2022, the joint effort between both organizations empowered Three Square to distribute an additional 42,000 meals to Nevadans in need.
Strike Out Hunger, Three Square Night at the Las Vegas Ballpark, Sept. 23
The Las Vegas Aviators are teaming up with Three Square Food Bank to strike out hunger at the Las Vegas Ballpark on Saturday, Sept. 23. When visitors purchase a ticket through a special website ticketing link, $5 will be donated to help Three Square provide 15 meals to families and individuals who need it most.

Audacy Las Vegas’ 4 Corners Food Drive, Sept. 26-29
Audacy Las Vegas is once again participating for Hunger Action Month with the return of the 4 Corners Food Drive on Tuesday, Sept. 26 through Friday, Sept. 29. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., radio station KMXB-94.1 FM will participate in the live, multi-day fundraising event – complete with prizes, storytelling and special guest interviews – to raise funds for Three Square and the fight against hunger.
The 4 Corners Food Drive contributed an additional 220,455 meals in 2022. Community members can take part by tuning in to participating Audacy radio stations on Sept. 26-29 and by donating to the 4 Corners Food Drive online at www.threesquare.org/4corners.
KOMP Radiothon, Sept. 15 – Hunger Action Day
On Sept. 15, KOMP 92.3 The Rock Station will host its annual Hunger Action Month Radiothon benefiting Three Square. Listeners can donate to Three Square at KOMP’s virtual food drive page: www.threesquare.org/komp.
The Giving Pump, through Sept. 30
Fill up for a good cause at the Giving Pump! Now through Saturday, Sept. 30, fill up at the Giving Pump – which are specially marked colorful purple pumps at participating Shell stations across Las Vegas – and a portion of the fill-up will be donated to Three Square.
