Black Gospel Theatre gearing up for post-pandemic comeback with new show

Unsplash

In 1990, Las Vegas had very few theatrical institutions.

That same year, one began: The Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre.

Its mission was — and is — to celebrate and create awareness of black gospel musical plays. And each year, it puts on an average of two plays.

In 2020, it was ready to celebrate its 30th anniversary — but then Covid-19 hit.

This coming Labor Day Weekend, though, the Black Gospel Theater makes its post-pandemic comeback.

At the helm of that production is Mary Etta Sayles Clinton. She’s not only the founder of the performance organization, she’s also its playwright and director.

This new production is titled My Own Best Friend, and it premieres September 2 at the West Las Vegas Library.

Guests: Mary Etta Sayles Clinton, founder and director, Las Vegas Black Gospel Theater; Bob Coffin, actor, My Own Best Friend and former Las Vegas City Councilman
