When you hear the song “She Bangs,” do you think of Ricky Martin or do you smile and remember William Hung?

The American Idolcontestant gained a cult following from his infamous audition in 2004. Although lambasted by judge Simon Cowell, millions of fans appreciated his determination. The appearance led to a record deal, three albums, and countless international television appearances.

Since that night 18 years ago – William Hung has continued to capitalize on what could have been just “15 seconds of fame.” Now he’s moved here to Las Vegas trying to parlay his notoriety into a professional poker career.

I always believed in taking calculated risks in my life... I would say poker I'm much better compared to singing.

He says his Idol infamy is a "double-edged sword" at the tables. The great players try to bluff him more, and the less experienced players underestimate his abilities.

I'm very hard to bluff against, and that's good!

Looking back on his unsuccessful Idol audition, he says he has no regrets. He got to Hollywood, just not the way he expected.

Sometimes in life you have to give yourself a chance in order to succeed. Not everything will work in your favor.

William Hung is a professional poker player based in Las Vegas. He also makes a living as a motivational speaker.
