The city of North Las Vegas has launched a program to assist parents looking for educational options for their children.
The city has set up the Parent Ambassador Program where parents can call (702) 625-9715 or find information online.
“It’s just very important to be educated on the ins and outs of the whole system and what it’s designed to accomplish,” said Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown.
Goynes-Brown, a former teacher and assistant principal, told State of Nevada that North Las Vegas wants to give parents more tools to make the right educational decisions.
“I see both sides of this. The Clark County School District is awesome; it was my career for 35 years,” she said, “but some kids do not need a one-size-fits-all type of educational program. And you have to teach to that child.”
The new call center is part of the city’s LearnNLV initiative to boost education in the city. LearnNLV also includes the Southern Nevada Urban Micro Academy, a program started to aid families during the pandemic but is continuing because of a positive response.
"We were able to provide a safe environment with face-to-face instruction with small classes, and with a very diverse population of our students," the councilwoman said.
