Double Negative landscape art by Michael Heizer is just one of the features of Nevada's Central Basin and Range area.

If you look at an aerial photo of Nevada’s Central Basin and Range area, it consists of narrow mountain ranges going north to south. A 17 th Century U.S. geologist compared them to “an army of caterpillars marching toward Mexico.”

Now a new exhibition called “Basin and Range” opens Friday night at the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery on the campus of the University of Las Vegas, Nevada.

It features artworks inspired by the area and the environmental issues surrounding the section of the state.

All of the artists who contributed are from Nevada.
