He’s been called The Genius, the High Priest of Soul, and simply Brother Ray. He transcended blindness, discrimination and addiction to become a Grammy-winning crossover artist whose brilliance burst forth in a dizzying array of genres, from country, to R & B, to rock and gospel.
The music of Ray Charles has a new home on the Las Vegas strip. “Georgia on My Mind” at the Venetian features top entertainers including Nneena Freelon, Clint Holmes and the acappella group Take 6. All giving voice to the music of The Genius.
Some of the performers in the show not only look to Ray Charles as a musical influence but have worked with the man in person. They talked with State of Nevada about the man and the music.
