Nevadans have been looking to a proposed medical school at UNLV to help solve the state’s physician shortage.
But some policy leaders think it’s just as important to create medical residencies that would draw students from other states, since, according to research, two thirds of medical students stay in the state where they complete their residency.
These programs aren’t cheap – according to the Las Vegas Review Journal they cost hospitals as much as one hundred thousand dollars per resident. Are more residencies needed in Nevada? And where does the state get the funds?
