The Taming of the Shrew

Shakespeare's " The Taming of the Shrew" is the classic play of the battle of the sexes. Petruchio tries to assert his dominance over the recalcitrant Katarina by means we might now call domestic violence. So why is this play still popular? Do we like a our drama to be politically incorrect? Or is Shakespeare more subtle than most playgoers realize? Las Vegans can find out for themselves this week as the Nevada Conservatory Theatre performs "Taming of the Shrew" at the Black Box Theatre this Thursday through Sunday.
