🕴️ Joey Cusumano, last known associate of Las Vegas crime boss Tony Spilotro, died on Tuesday at 90 years old. Cusumano is credited in Francis Ford Coppola's The Cotton Club and oversaw the menu at Oscar's Steakhouse despite his inability to eat there on account of his presence in Nevada's "Black Book" for racketeering.

📷 The Reno City Council voted 5-2 to approve replacing the city’s Flock cameras with Axon cameras. That’s according to The Nevada Independent.

Mayor Hillary Schieve and Councilmember Meghan Ebert cast the two no-votes. Out of 79 pre-meeting public comments, 71 opposed the measure. Reno Assemblywoman Selena La Rue Hatch was among the opponents.

The contract comes with some stipulations. License plate data not linked to an active investigation must be deleted after 15 days, down from a previous 30-day policy. Federal agencies are barred from direct database access; the city retains full data ownership and determines sharing on a case-by-case basis.

The system will be audited and queries logged. Officers face discipline up to termination for system misuse. The city of Reno retains the right to terminate the agreement on 30 days' notice without penalty if conditions are not met.

🚧 The Charleston Boulevard Storm Drain Project is moving into a new phase, but Commerce Street on the south side of Charleston will remain closed to finish the project faster.

That’s according to the city of Las Vegas. Originally, the intersection was set to reopen next week [Oct. 26]. Now, Commerce is slated to reopen to traffic by Nov. 20.

It will remain a two-way street from California Avenue to the closure to maintain access to businesses. Work is scheduled daily, with Charleston Boulevard remaining open with one lane in each direction through the work zone.

⛽ As the seasons change, so comes the transition to winter-blend gasoline. AAA says the seasonal blend is cheaper to produce and costs consumers less. However, this month's pump prices are expected to set a record as the most expensive October ever, following similar records in August and September.

High crude oil prices are being seen as the reason steep declines at the pump just aren’t happening. Currently, the price for a barrel of crude oil is near $100, and AAA says that’s due to instability in the Strait of Hormuz.

Nevada ranks among the nation’s most expensive gasoline markets, with one gallon of regular gasoline coming in at $5.33. The Silver State is also among the top 10 most expensive states for public charging, at 43 cents per kilowatt-hour.

🎤 For Harry Styles' dedicated audience, it is the can’t-miss event of the year: Tens of thousands have descended on New York City’s Madison Square Garden each night of his 30-date residency, rushing to catch the show before it concludes Halloween weekend.

The stint follows the artist's 2022 blockbuster run, when he performed 15 consecutive nights at the famous arena. And he's not the only one embracing the format. Residencies in Las Vegas, once viewed as the final stop at the end of a long career, have attracted younger performers like Usher, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. In 2024, Adele embarked on a 10-date Munich residency.

And last year, Bad Bunny's 31-date residency in Puerto Rico single-handedly boosted the island’s fragile economy, generating over $200 million while extending his efforts to elevate the U.S. territory's global profile.

Celine Dion, who holds the record for the highest-grossing residency in Vegas, recently embarked on one just outside Paris. It's her first concert series since revealing her diagnosis with stiff-person syndrome.

Industry insiders and artists alike say there are many reasons why residencies have taken hold in the music business, despite arguments that the format may shift costs to fans who could save money attending a tour in their hometown rather than spending the cash on travel.

Residencies aren't exactly a novel concept, explains Mitch Rose, Creative Artists Agency's head of North American touring, who represents artists including Styles and Perry.

Pop stars are embracing residencies, a format Celine Dion helped pioneer, for less travel and bigger productions, though fans face high ticket and travel costs.

“Go back in time to early Vegas, in the '60s when Frank Sinatra had a residency and Tony Bennett had a residency,” he said. “They played multiple shows across a year at a hotel. That was the birth of a residency.”

Over time, however, Vegas residencies became synonymous with a particular kind of artist: one close to retiring. That changed in the 2000s, when Dion revitalized the format with her yearslong “A New Day …” and “Celine” runs. John Meglen, co-CEO of Concerts West, was instrumental in both the Vegas residencies and the one in France. Read the full story here.
