The Republican Party was not happy with Secretary of State Ross Miller's decision to hold an open election in Congressional District 2 to replace now-Senator Dean Heller. Republicans say they should be given the chance to have their party endorse one candidate. That, says Miller, is undemocratic. And, in any case, it's against the law. Critics say that the Republicans are only worried that an open election might allow former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle to win with as little as 20 or 25 percent of the vote. And that would hurt the party's chances in 2012. So the Republican Party is asking the courts to change the decision.
