The Medical Mafia

The medical mafia case seems to have come to an end with a whimper, not a bang. The main players have taken guilty pleas rather than face trial but the result is a lot less than the government initially promised when it first indicted Spine Surgeon Mark Kabins, Attorney Noel Gage and self-styled "medical consultant" Howard Awand. So how did these three men hatch the conspiracy that led to their pleas? Was it sheer greed or the strange circumstances of medical malpractice in Southern Nevada. We look at the sordid saga with the journalist who brought the case to national attention last summer.
