England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday recorded no new COVID-19 deaths, and Wales reported four. Health experts said the milestone represents an encouraging sign.
"Things will get worse before they get better," U.K. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said, noting that the coronavirus is spreading exponentially in the United Kingdom.
"I hope she's not very heavy-handed with the sword, because by then I might be rather a poor old weak soul," the World War II veteran said of a possible knighthood ceremony with Queen Elizabeth II.
Trade groups expect the government to roll out new coronavirus travel restrictions, including a quarantine for out-of-country arrivals, on Sunday. And they're already pushing back publicly.
The prime minister voiced the positive outlook at his first briefing since recovering from COVID-19. Johnson did not, however, lay out specifically when or how the U.K.'s lockdown measures would lift.
"Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive," U.K. officials said.
If Johnson is unable to carry out his official duties, his role would likely be filled temporarily by Dominic Raab, the U.K.'s foreign secretary and first secretary of state.
