Dapper Companies is beginning construction on the Mission Linen building in the Arts District, and they plan to add a museum, a coffee shop and a new pizza spot.
The building, at 1001 S. 1st Street, is currently known for its ominous appearance and broken windows, but soon, developer J Dapper says, the building will be the home of the Evel Knievel Museum.
It will also house Mothership Coffee Roasters' second downtown location, and a new heavy metal themed pizza restaurants from the minds behind Evel Pie and Golden Tiki.
Here's the description of the unnamed pizza spot: "Described as Chuck E. Cheese meets 80s metal, the bar/restaurant will feature pizza, fried chicken and mofo potatoes, paired with pitchers of beer and cocktails served in Viking horn glasses, goblin goblets and medieval steins. The Dungeon and Dragons themed environment will include a 1970s carnival dark ride, pinball machines, Skee ball and retro arcade games. An animatronic heavy metal band of characters will rock out from their Castle Lair."
And the museum: "showcasing a collection of authentic artifacts that belonged to the most legendary, death-defying daredevil of all time. Patrons will be able to experience Knievel’s life and journey to record-setting, super-stardom, including Evel’s motorcycles – the bikes that launched a legend, his genuine leathers and helmets, “Big Red,” Knievel’s fully-restored Mack Truck, and personal and never-before-seen memorabilia. Interactive exhibits include a virtual reality 4-D jump experience, broken bones interactive, including Evel’s actual X-rays, “Plan Your Jump” interactive challenge and the Snake River Experience Room featuring Knievel’s actual X-2 Sky Cycle."
A timeline for opening wasn't immediately available.
