Meet Ely's Mayor: Nathan Robertson

John Locher / AP Photo

Nathan Robertson is an engineer for a local paving company in Ely, some 250 northeast of Las Vegas. He owns and operates a laundromat in the city of about 4,300 people.

And he’s Ely’s mayor.

At 35, he’s one of the youngest mayors ever elected in Nevada.

He’s a Republican. He’s also gay -- and his election has some Nevadans reconsidering the complexity of political life in our state’s rural communities.

Mayor Robertson joins us now by phone from his office in Ely City Hall as part of our series on the mayors of Nevada.
