LAS VEGAS (AP) — A star UNLV basketball recruit has been charged with driving under the influence of marijuana in a high-speed crash that killed a 52-year-old Las Vegas school custodian.
Zaon Collins' attorneys appeared on his behalf Thursday before a Las Vegas judge who let him remain free with electronic monitoring pending a Feb. 17 preliminary hearing.
His attorneys say their 19-year-old client maintains his innocence.

Prosecutors say Collins had 50% more marijuana metabolite in his system than allowed and police determined his Dodge Challenger was going 85 mph in a 35 mph zone before the crash.
The wreck killed Eric Echevarria, a grandfather with a large family.
