The Vegas Golden Knights have signed top free agent Alex Pietrangelo to a $61.6 million, seven-year contract.
Pietrangelo will count $8.8 million against the salary cap through 2027. The 30-year-old defenseman leaves the St. Louis Blues after serving as captain of their 2019 Stanley Cup championship team.
Pietrangelo gives Vegas another big-money player, but the team had to trade defenseman Nate Schmidt to Vancouver for a 2022 third-round pick to fit him under the cap.

The Golden Knights will likely have to make another move to be cap compliant after adding Pietrangelo.
