For a few weeks now, organizers of a political action committee have been holding curbside rallies AGAINST mandatory facemasks in Nevada.
But those in the medical community are doing something different.
They’ve partnered with the group behind the MaskUp4NV and MaskUP4USA movement to create a pop-up parade in Las Vegas.
The parade will visit 13 hospitals on Wednesday, encouraging people to WEAR masks.
Greg Chase is one of the organizers. He’s the founder and CEO of Experience Strategy Associates.
“We have a motorcade of roughly 18 EMS vehicles, convertibles, delivery trucks from essential workers that are being represented outside the medical community as well, that are frankly going to make a stop at 13 of our local Las Vegas hospitals,” he said.
The motorcade will stop at the hospital entrances and give a seven-minute performance featuring acrobats, showgirls, Elvis impersonators, dancers and a surprise guest.
“The medical community has been working so hard and so diligently through the fight against COVID. We wanted to take the opportunity to collaborate with the hospitals across town… in order to recognize our medical community, to inspire our community to do the right thing,” Chase said.
He said the performance will launch a new public service campaign designed to get everyone to do the right thing and wear a mask.
“We wanted to make sure we did a spectacle to kick off this whole campaign,” Chase explained, “The whole campaign in its entirety will be themed to ‘This is Me,’ revealing the emotion, the people, the faces, the hearts behind the mask. It will be a pretty powerful campaign once everyone gets to see that released.”
The song "This is Me" is from the movie "The Greatest Showman."
Chase said members of the medical community contacted his group after a pro-mask fashion show they did in front of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.
He said after talking to members of the medical community while developing the campaign the message they wanted to get out is that they're the busiest they've ever been and it is up to the whole community to help.
“Now is a very important time to get a message out that if everyone can just hunker down and do the right thing we can all get through this quicker and we can stop putting, unnecessarily, people at risk both as community citizens and those who are truly battling this on the frontline,” Chase said.
