Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Thursday that Phase 1 of the reopening of the state will begin Saturday, May 9, instead of May 15 as previously stated.
The governor said there would be capacity restrictions on retail outlets and restaurants to maintain social distancing guidelines.
Sisolak said face coverings will be strongly encouraged for people when there out in public but businesses will be required to have employees wear masks.
The governor is still not allowing gatherings of more than 10 people. He would like people to hold virtual Mother's Day gatherings.
The stay-at-home order started March 16 in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The governor credited the people of the state for their efforts to hit the benchmarks for reopening. In addition, Sisolak said hospitals are ready for a surge in cases.
