LVCVA Holds Launch Of New City Slogan After Bryant Death

Planned activities for the rollout of a new marketing slogan for Las Vegas were put on hold Sunday, following the death of LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

Bryant was killed along with eight others in a helicopter crash Sunday morning.

A television spot did air as scheduled during the Grammy Awards, to launch the slogan “What happens here, only happens here.”

But other rollout activities were canceled, including marquee displays planned for across the valley.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority instead asked resort partners to show a message on their marquees in remembrance of Bryant.

Meanwhile, the new line “What happens here, only happens here” replaces the city’s longtime popular catchphrase “What happens here, stays here” which was developed in 2003 by marketing company R&R Partners.

Sink your teeth into our annual collection of dining — and drinking — stories, including a tally of Sin City's Tiki bars, why good bread is having a moment, and how one award-winning chef is serving up Caribbean history lessons through steak. Plus, discover how Las Vegas is a sports town, in more ways than one. Bon appétit!
