The Clark County Education Association has launched a campaign to raise more than $1 billion more each year for public education.
On Tuesday. the teachers’ union filed the first initiative petition for a 3 percent increase in the gaming tax, which is projected to increase state revenue by $350 million a year.
Later this week, CCEA will file a second initiative petition that will raise another $1 billion annually that will go directly to K-through-12 education.
Combined, both initiatives project revenue of over $1.4 billion more each year for Nevada.
The union says it’s taking these steps to ensure the new funding formula for Nevada’s education system is adequately funded.
