Clark County officials plan to spend $12 million to combat chronic absenteeism and truancy in schools, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Under a new truancy prevention program approved Tuesday, the county will build four more Harbor Juvenile Assessment Centers, making six of the facilities across the Las Vegas Valley.
Two were opened in 2016 to connect troubled youth to counseling, substance abuse treatment and other services. Also, the county will implement a support system, ranging from prevention to intensive support, depending on how many days of school a student has missed.
