Police Video Shows Officer Wounding Felon In Fleeing Pickup

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police released officer body-worn and convenience store security camera clips of an officer shooting at a convicted felon driving a U-Haul pickup truck accused of striking patrol vehicles and driving away before crashing again and trying to run.

Assistant Clark County Sheriff Brett Zimmerman aired video Monday that he said showed 29-year-old Austin Cadeaux evading police before he was wounded and arrested last Wednesday.

Cadeaux was treated for a back wound and argued Friday with a judge during his first court appearance on felony battery with a weapon and evading charges.

Records show Cadeaux has five prior felony convictions, and was on probation after pleading guilty in March to possessing a stolen vehicle.

The officer who fired shots, Joshua Byington, is on paid leave pending department and district attorney reviews of the shooting.
