As the school year begins Monday in the Clark County School District, there are more than 700 openings for jobs for teachers.
The figure is about 200 positions higher than at this time last year, and the highest number of teacher openings in five years.
Tya Mathis-Coleman is the director of diversity and high-need areas recruitment at CCSD, and she told the Las Vegas Sun that most of the openings are in special education and elementary education.

CCSD employs just under 19,000 teachers in the district, and Mathis-Coleman said that the number of openings wasn’t a large figure when considering the size of the district.
She also said the district is constantly hiring across the school year.
