Nevada Inmate Serving Rape Sentence Dies In Prison Hospice

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Officials say a 56-year-old Nevada prison inmate who was serving 10 years to life for rape, sexual assault, robbery and battery in Las Vegas has died behind bars.

The Nevada Department of Corrections reported Monday that Terrance Smith died Saturday at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center hospice unit in Carson City.

His cause of death was not disclosed. An autopsy was scheduled.

Records show that Smith was convicted at trial of attacking a 59-year-old woman at her Las Vegas apartment in May 2002. He was sentenced in December 2002.
