LAS VEGAS (AP) — As the dust settles on Nevada's legislative session, the buffet of progressive laws passed by the Democrat-controlled, female-majority Legislature is being hailed as an example by Democratic presidential candidates and others on the left.
The 2019 legislative session marked the first time in nearly three decades that Democrats in the swing state controlled the governor's mansion and both legislative chambers, allowing them to tackle gun control, boost collective bargaining, expand voting access and more.
Political science professor Fred Lokken says that while Nevada lawmakers took on a laundry list of progressive causes, their approach may be moderate enough to win them control again in 2020.
