Senate Schedules Hearing On Restarting Yucca Mountain
A U.S. Senate hearing will be held next week on a bill that would restart the licensing process to build a permanent nuclear waste facility at Yucca Mountain.
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee is proposing legislation that would move forward at the site to end a 30-year impasse.
Nevada’s two senators, Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, have both lobbied against Yucca Mountain.
The majority of Nevada’s lawmakers are also against the project, including former Republican Governor Brian Sandoval and Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak.
The committee has scheduled the hearing on Tuesday.
