RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County sheriff's office says a man who was shot by Reno police over the weekend was fleeing in a stolen vehicle and pointed a gun at the officer.
The sheriff's office says the officer tried to pull over a speeding white sedan at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday before it hit a median near Reno High School.
A preliminary investigation indicates the driver ran from the car and pointed a handgun at the officer before the officer shot him.
Reno police said the suspect was in stable condition after he was transported to a local hospital Sunday night but there's been no update on his condition since.
The one officer who was involved was not injured and has been placed on paid administrative leave while the sheriff's office conducts an investigation in accordance with regional protocols.
