For-Profit College Company Agrees To Debt Relief Settlement

The Nevada Attorney General’s office announced thousands of students who attended for-profit colleges such as Le Cordon Bleu will receive debt relief.

A multistate settlement with the overseeing company, Career Education Corporations, will equal nearly $12.6 million in debt relief for Nevadans.

This concludes a five-year investigation into the college that included Nevada and 47 other states.

The company agreed it would not collect the nearly $494 million owed by more than 179,000 students nationally.

Nevada alleged that because of deceptive practices, students enrolled in the college who would not have and could not obtain professional licensure and got stuck with substantial student loan debt.

CEC denied those allegations but agreed to forgo collecting the outstanding debt.
