Ex-Police Officer Gets Probation In Theft From Disabled Son

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Boulder City police officer has been sentenced to five years' probation after pleading guilty to stealing money from his disabled son.

The Las Vegas-Review Journal reports that 49-year-old Jeffrey Grasso was freed from jail Thursday after his sentencing this week on a felony exploitation of a vulnerable person charge.

Grasso was previously dismissed from the Boulder City police department after 15 years on the job.

A prosecutor says Grasso paid restitution to his son before he was sentenced.

Grasso was accused of withdrawing more than $10,000 from accounts set up to care for his son, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a skateboard fall in 2012.

Grasso is also facing probation after pleading guilty to intimidating a public officer in an April encounter with police in Henderson.
